ELDR Family
The European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR Party) brings together 57 political parties with common liberal, democratic and reform ideals. In 2007 the European Liberal Democrat political family achieved many successes in the various elections around the EU member states, bringing the total number of liberal democrat voters to 30 million Europe-wide.

Five EU prime ministers, one third of the members of the European Commission, 75 MEPs in the ALDE Group of the European Parliament and ministers in more than 20 governments in Europe belong to the liberal family.

A massacre of human rights

European liberals don’t suffer from the crisis and keep intact their shareThe Russian Party YABLOKO, ELDR member, calls for a cardinal change of the Russian federal policies in the Northern Caucasus. “The kidnapping and murder of Zarema Sadulayeva and Alik Dzabrailov shows the inability of the regional governments to perform their functions”, Sergei Mitrokhin, Chair of the party, said.
“It is obvious that the murder of human rights activists Zarema Sadulayeva and Alik Dzabrailov is connected with their professional activities”, he continued.

Radicali Italiani party visits Italian prisons A good reason to celebrate the victory

Radicali Italiani, ELDR full member, led during the hottest summer days of August 15-16 a group of one hundred Italian MPs and regional councillors through the Italian prisons in order to monitor the conditions of detainees.
Senator Marco Perduca along with Rita Bernardini and Elisabetta Zamparutti invested their holidays in witnessing the overpopulation of the Italian penitentiaries and the bad conditions of most prisoners. “It’s firstly a fight for the defense of human and civil rights, and secondly for the secularism of the State and the decriminalization of cannabis” it’s the final message coming from I Radicali.

German Liberals heading into hot election periodKasyanov comments the ELDR results

Running high in the polls all around Germany, the FDP has entered confidently the peak period of its electoral campaign. Elections in 3 “Länder” at the end of the month will form the prelude to the national elections on 27 September.
German Liberals are clear in their message to stop further public deficits, to finally reform the German tax system to create more growth and jobs and internationally to support US President Obama’s initiatives on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

YDA Convention: LYMEC addresses US Young DemocratsFDP celebrates its triumph in Germany

“Over a thousand Young Democrats from all over the USA converged last weekend on Chicago, Illinois, for YDA’s biennial convention. The location of the Convention was a symbol of its own since Illinois's own, President Barack Obama, rallied young people from across the country to an overwhelming victory last November.
The Convention was notably the occasion of many traditional caucus meetings (LGBT, rural, labour, high school…) and training sessions on campaigning techniques. Among keynote speakers were the former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean, the mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, President Bill Clinton, and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
