Community politics and effective campaigning strategies to gain
political power were at the heart of discussions during the latest
event in the series of "Liberal Breakfasts" hosted at the ELDR
headquarters in Brussels on 2 December 2008.
The event was organised in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann
Foundation, Brussels, and the German liberal party FDP, Auslandsgruppe
Europa. The guest speaker was Flo Clucas, President of the Liberal
Group (ALDE) in the Committee of the Regions and Deputy Leader of
Liverpool City Council (UK)
With her extensive experience as a city counsellor and activist of
ELDR’s British member party Liberal Democrats, Flo Clucas was a great
example of how liberals are capable of translating the liberal motto
“think global, act local” into politics that matter for the people. Her
various examples of practical support to the citizens and liberal
community policies confirmed and underlined the successes of England’s
Liberal Democrats in recent elections.
The lively discussions between Clucas and the participants of this
breakfast on a cold Brussels morning confirmed that the early bird who
catches the worm is a liberal!
This discussion has been one of many of ELDR’s recent events to prepare
itself and support its member parties in the efforts to achieve an even
greater success at the European elections than 5 years ago.
