European Liberal Democrats condemn killings in Guinea (25/01/2007)

The European Liberal Democrat and Reform (ELDR) Party is outraged that at least 17 people were shot dead and 150 others seriously injured in Guinea when police fired on protesters on 22 January."Monday's events have shown an unacceptable use of force by the Guinean authorities. I will be watching closely the government's inquiry into the killings. I call on all sides to stop violence and to enter into a negotiation process. Calm must return.
