In almost exactly two weeks time, THE major European liberal event of the year kicks off: the ELDR Congress 13-15 October 2010 in Helsinki, Finland! Under the over-arching topic Challenges of Demographic Change, over 500 liberally minded people are set to gather for three days of discussions, elections and networking on topical issues such as how to counter the effects of an ageing Europe, the role of migration for future societies and how to ensure a proper work-life balance for Europeans, during as well as after the financial crisis. European Liberals wholeheartedly congratulate their Swedish member parties Folkpartiet Liberalerna and Centerpartiet to their results in yesterday's Swedish parliamentary elections even if their electoral alliance is short of 3 seats for an absolute majority. Sweden's regular parliamentary elections will be held 19 September. For these elections two clear coalition blocks, i.e. government alternatives have been formed before the elections giving the voter the opportunity to choose which government it wants for the following four years, resulting in a fierce campaign for undecided voters. European Liberals engage in dialogue with European students

Over the past three days, European Liberals successfully concluded the ELF/ELDR Liberal Academy 2010. In the first of what will become an annual event, the Liberal Academy was bringing together 40 students from across Europe to the European Parliament in Brussels on the basis of an essay competition. "This is part of our efforts to develop the ELDR Party into a true political party organization," explained ELDR Secretary General Federica Sabbati. Read more ...
