CROATIA - ELDR SUPPORT HSLS – "They will revitalize the party and prepare new grounds"

eldr, Thursday 15 July 2010 16:40 ::

As the Croatian government expenditures have seen additional increases rather than implementing the economic recovery package, ELDR’s member party HSLS decided to resign from the ruling coalition.

This decision was motivated by the marked contrast between the coalition's half-hearted and ineffective real policies and the declarative statements contained in the economic recovery programme. This step finds the support of European Liberals. Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck MEP, President of the ELDR Party pointed out, “in economically hard times like these governments need to live up to their responsibilities to lead countries out of the crises also with unpopular measures.” A liberal mark was no longer detectable in the Croatian government as it was mostly marked by a lack of commitment to implement the widely backed recovery programme.
“We support HSLS’ decision and trust, as the oldest democratic party in Croatia and the oldest liberal party in the Balkans, they will be able to run successfully as a credible force in next year’s parliamentary elections led by their dynamic and credible president Darinko Kosor. With great ability he pursues a course of revitalizing the liberal roots of the party.
“We have full trust in HSLS and are certain that Croatians citizens will support liberals and democrats in the next elections”, concluded President Neyts-Uyttebroeck.
