The talk, which took place on 18th May, was organized by CDC and Unió Mallorquina with the support of the ELDR Party and centered around the future of the Cuban economy.

In an argument, stemming from the comparison and contrast of Raúl and Fidel Castro’s personalities, Montaner analysed the potential different outcomes. Montaner concluded that Raúl is more rational, idealistic and intellectual than Fidel, and because of this he believes that with a power trade-off, the future of Cuba may be different. Raúl long ago realized the inefficiencies in the communist mode of production (in part because of his intellectual spirit). Thus, Montaner believes that the parasite system creates a parallel between Cuba and Russia, furthermore establishing a comparison between Raúl and Gorbachev, and concluding that in the near future Cuba will have two options: follow Gorbachev’s path or continue to negate reality.
