ELDR Focus Year on Demographic Changeeldr, Tuesday 4 May 2010 15:21 ::
The ELDR Party is pleased to announce the launch of its Focus Year on demographic change and the accompanying website: www.eldrfocus.eu The nature of Europe's society is changing and there are a number of fundamental questions that need to be answered. The rate of European population growth is falling, while the percentage of EU citizens over 65 years old is fast increasing. Demographic change requires us to look at how Europe can maintain a workforce that can innovate, create and ensure long-term economic growth and competitiveness on the global stage. By launching this Focus Year on demographic change the ELDR Party aims to highlight the main talking points, what's at stake and what our liberal democrat positions are on issues, such as; the type of social security systems and pension provisions that we need and how to achieve them; migration and immigration policies that are to the benefit of individuals and member states; and labour market policies that allow employers and employees alike to fulfill their market potential. The thoughts and opinions expressed by ELDR's members through the Focus Year initiative will be discussed at the ELDR Party Congress on 13-15th October 2010 in Helsinki, Finland which has the theme of "the Challenges of Demographic Change" and this is where ELDR's main theme resolution on this issue will be debated and adopted. Get Involved! If you have an opinion on demographic change we want to hear it!
