The ELDR Party is delighted to congratulate David Ford, Leader of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland on becoming Northern Ireland's new Justice Minister, following a vote in the Northern Ireland Assembly yesterday. In taking up this position, Ford becomes the first local politician to hold the office of Justice Minister for 38 years. Commenting after his election by the Assembly, Ford said, "we have a duty to show we can provide partnership, leadership and delivery and ensure that all our people see the benefits of devolution." The position of justice minister was created after Members of the Assembly voted to increase the number of ministries that the devolved authority controls. Annemie Neyts MEP, ELDR Party President, stated "I am very pleased that somebody as experienced and dedicated as David Ford has been appointed as Northern Ireland's Justice Minister. I have every confidence that he will be successful in implementing a policy programme and advancing community relations".
