The Netherlands will have snap general elections on Wednesday 9 June, following the February 2010 collapse of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende's fourth government since 2002, which was a result of the social democrat (PvdA, member of the Party of European Socialists) ministers leaving the government over a disagreement regarding the question whether or not to prolong the Dutch military presence in Afghanistan.
