The Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya and the ELDR Party celebrated a conference about Africaeldr, Monday 9 November 2009 11:37 ::With the collaboration of the ELDR Party, Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya organized the conference ‘Africa vista des de Catalunya’ with the participation of some European and African leaders. The International Officer of the CDC, Carles Llorens, presented the conference saying: “We ignore the reality of Africa. Yes, that is the exactly word: we are ignorant about Africa! Africa, however, is not any more that far reality that only we saw in the cinema. Africa has been thrown for us above! Thousands of Africans live in our villages and cities. They will be a day citizens of Catalonia and it is convenient to us to know this reality better". With this goal, the conference counted out with the intervention of anthropologists, cooperative and expert in immigration. The leader of Convergence, Artur Mas, who opened the experience, remembered his engagement with the continent when he was the Prime Minister of Catalonia, but also his more recent journey to Senegal where, of the hand of the President Abdoulaye Wade, he knew the plan "Emigration Zero". Artur Mas affirmed that he would convert the African continent into "a priority in the international politic of Catalonia". It is for this that compromised "on traveling to Africa once a year" when he will arrive at the presidency of the Catalan Government; making it, not only of the hand of cooperative but also accompanied by businessmen who believe the black continent. The witness most shocking of the conference was Ms. Yayi Bayam Diouf, better known like Mother Courage, spokeswoman of the Collective of Women against the Clandestine Emigration, an association that -on the beaches of Senegal- avoids that very young people undertake a journey without return, like the one that ended with the life of her son. Yayi Bayam made a call "to trust with the African society and especially with the women". They are -she explained- the factor of stability and would represent a better interlocution than the one that at present exist with the governments. She defended the micro credits and other helps must go directly to the civil society and not to some governments which they "do not avoid that the youngsters risk their live searching an exit to the European continent ". The day closed with an intervention of Louis Michel, European commissioner of Development and Humanitarian Help (2004-2009). Michel made a radiography of the current situation and defended the idea that Africa and Europe are strategic allied, as he made in to his book "The indispensable alliance". The current European parliamentary, especially, defended that the development can only appear "from inside" and never only of the cooperation. "Does not have to continue with charitable policies -he said- and what we have to do is to transform us in partners". He told a lot about the Chinese presence in Africa and he refused the idea of “continuing blaming of all the evils of Africa to colonialism.” For Michel many of the evils of the continent are responsibility of the African elites. |
