European Liberals open today the 30th Congress in Barcelonaeldr, Thursday 19 November 2009 18:07 ::
Economic liberalism after the financial crisis and the way to kick start the new Europe are on the top priorities of ELDR members gathering in Barcelona for a two-day of discussions at the annual Congress. Annemie Neyts, who stands for the third mandate as ELDR President, gave an overview of the successful last years. Click here to see the pictures Where she said that the congresses became more and more popular and better attended; we have more parties being members of the European party; and the European liberal events influence now more than ever the political European scene. Artur Mas addressing at the opening to the liberal colleagues a warm welcome on behalf of the Catalans liberal members of CDC, said: “We are proud to form part of this family which, in today’s Europe, is the one that is proposing the best and most creative solutions to the problems facing us”. After listing the best practices of the different European liberal parties, like Keskusta party for the Education (“which has implemented an education policy in Finland that is the most efficient in the world), Venstre and of Radikal Venstre for hosting in Copenhagen the Summit of environment and “for making have made Denmark an example for the protection of the environment”, he commented the dangerous lack of liberalism in the Spanish political stage. “In Catalonia and Spain, like Portugal and Greece, the socialists continue to govern, something which does not seem to be at all recommendable. Je suis sûr que ce Congrès nous servira à voir que, face à la paralysie socialiste, il y a notre alternative économique, une réponse libérale et catalane qui aide à surmonter la crise et qui montre le chemin d’une nouvelle prospérité”.
