Dutch Liberals send most MEPs to European Parliamenteldr, Friday 5 June 2009 10:58 ::The two ELDR member parties D66 and VVD both won 3 seats according to the results released by the Dutch authorities on Thursday evening. The overall presence of Dutch liberals will therefore increase by one seat in the next European Parliament. The results will officially be confirmed only on Sunday evening 7 June when polling stations across Europe will have closed. The Dutch government coalition of conservatives and socialists suffered great blows, while the right wing populists could secure 4 seats. Liberals across Europe will now do the best to confirm the trend that Liberals are the voice of reason, of principle and purpose, while populists play on the fears of the citizens and conservatives and socialists fall in the traps of protectionism and nationalization. Liberal parties champion the case for human rights as much as transparency and less bureaucracy at all levels of government that will guarantee a Europe of the citizens.
