Paternalistic socialists discredit successful liberal policieseldr, Friday 29 May 2009 12:21 ::In yet another proof of the socialists' reflex to control other people's lives European socialists' president Poul Nyrup Rasmussen made an unprecedented move in lecturing the successful liberal government of Estonia by suggesting them to waste more tax payers' money and trying to prevent Estonia to join the Eurozone. In a crude logic he suggested that Estonia should not try to stick to the 3% threshold of a budgetary deficit in order to fulfill the criteria for the adoption of the Euro. "Such a bold public move calls not only for the destruction of the successful European growth and stability pact but is an unacceptable interference in Estonian affairs", said ELDR Vice President and top candidate of the ruling Estonian Reform party for the European Parliament, Kristiina Ojuland. "Mr. Rasmussen would be better advised to question irresponsible public deficit spending of his socialist colleagues and conservative -but not less socialist- governments alike", she continued. Liberals know that a sound financial policy is the best stimulator for business investments and renewed economic growth, Ojuland continued. Printing money to bail out failing companies or to finance short-sighted cash-for-clunkers programmes only delay a genuine and sustainable economic recovery. States do not create jobs and contrary to the belief of others, the state is not the better banker either. Liberals trust in the people's creative minds and abilities to generate jobs and economic growth. For this very reason we call on the European citizens to vote at the European elections because the vote will make a difference and determine a new majority and new policies, says ELDR President and Belgian liberal candidate for OpenVLD Annemie Neyts. |
