Prevent conservative and socialist dominance - vote liberal in June 2009eldr, Wednesday 20 May 2009 13:34 ::
Liberal parties across Europe are the parties for growth and stability. Liberals care about the vast majority of our societies - the diligent hard working people. States do not create jobs and contrary to the belief of others, the state is not the better banker either. Liberals trust in the people's creative minds and abilities to generate jobs and economic growth. Socialists and conservative political parties alike prefer to resort to populist measures: i.e. "British jobs for British workers" or bail out companies such as car manufacturers where media attention is guaranteed. They neglect, however, the small and medium sized companies that create the vast majority of jobs in our societies. Europe does not need the nanny state as called for by the socialists in their natural reflex to control generally citizens' lives. Nor can we afford to fall into the trap of some conservative governments to fight the crisis with protectionist reflexes. Protectionism is a zero sum game destroying jobs not creating new ones. We should not confuse the cause-and-effect chain with regard to the root causes of the financial crisis. It was not the market economy as a system but state interventions in the US real estate sector that marked the beginning of the crisis. Liberals have always been in favor of a clear regulation of the markets. On this issue: read our special financial dossier. Yes, Liberals are in favor of a greater European role in solving the financial and economic crisis. But Liberals are cautious when it comes to proposing daily new stimulus packages to boost the economy. These plans tend to favor and please interest groups: a new bridge for the constituency here and more cash-for-clunkers (car-scrap bonus) there. Leave the tax payers' money to the tax payers. They will take a much smarter decision to stimulate the demand. Vote liberal at the European elections to prevent the others from implementing their failing strategies. |
