Unforgettable night of liberalism!eldr, Friday 17 April 2009 19:35 ::
Swing and techno and rock and soul. A plethora of musical styles were the backdrop for an unforgettable night for European liberals! The ELDR campaign launch that was held in Brussels on Wednesday 15th April was an unrivalled success and given that, according to our favorite liberal philosophy "actions speak louder than words", we have some record-breaking numbers. More than 1000 guests, including over one hundred young liberals; 35 VIPs; 10 TV stations; 60 journalists; 2 hours of speeches and debates, followed by an elegant walking dinner - Belgian style - topped off with an energetic dance floor triggered by live band The Fat King! ELDR is now unquestionably at the forefront of the 2009 European campaign, a magnet of convergence in terms of voters, European policies and consensus. "ELDR often balances the power between bigger political groups - Matti Vanhanen, Prime Minister of Finland said during the rally. We should use our position - our standing in the middle - to promote our values between the market-minded on the right and the socialists on the left." Referring to liberal achievements, Annemie Neyts, President of the ELDR mentioned "the prevention of protectionism in the wake of the crisis; much improved consumers' rights and protection; the fifth freedom, the free movement of knowledge and research; the securing of patients rights; the profound reform of agricultural and fisheries policy without so much as a strike or a riot; the reform of the administration of the commission; the, successful conclusion of delicate and difficult negotiations with candidate member states; and the new generation of economic partnerships with developing countries in the wake of initially fierce opposition Actions speak louder than words - vote liberal in June 2009!
