Lib Dems: The only party to lead UK out of recessioneldr, Monday 9 March 2009 12:25 ::Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the UK Liberal Democrats, has stated that his party is best placed to steer the UK out of recession and has urged the British public to take a "leap of faith" and vote liberal. Speaking at the Party's spring conference in Harrogate last weekend, Clegg stated that the Lib Dems are the only party that, "will rebuild the jobs, homes and hopes this recession has destroyed." Clegg criticized Prime Minister Gordon Brown's approach to stimulating the UK economy and highlighted that the £12.5 billion the Government has borrowed to finance this year's 2.5% cut in VAT "could have created nearly 100,000 new jobs and laid the foundations, quite literally, for a new green economy." The conference also adopted motions on reforming the financial sector, scrapping university tuition fees and improving the quality of childcare. The full text of these motions is available on the Lib Dems website, http://www.libdems.org.uk/conference.
