“The Swedish crown lost some value and the exchange rate has started to fluctuate. Our choice to be outside the monetary union will likely have the result of lost jobs and less welfare than we would have had otherwise. It’s time to re-establish the debate about the euro in Sweden. We should aim to ask the Swedish population their opinion in a new referendum in 2011” said Jan Björklund, Swedish Minister for Education, Folkpartiet.

”As a political party we have to lead public opinion, not only follow it”, said Swedish Europe Minister Cecilia Malmström. The Minister, also member of Folkpartiet, the most ”EU-friendly” party in Sweden, added: “It is in the genes of Folkpartiet to see the necessity of international cooperation”. ”Cooperation in Europe, trade and exchange between countries make Sweden richer, make our environment safer and give us opportunities to solve problems beyond our borders” she concluded.
