Resolution adopted by the ELDR Congress 2008 in Stockholm 

Stop the bloodshed in North-Kivu

The European Liberal Democratic and Reform Party, convening in Stockholm, Sweden, on 30^th and 31^st October 2008:

Given the current dramatic humanitarian situation in the Northern-Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Urges the European Union and its member states not to watch passively but on the contrary take the lead in protecting civilians from warfare and preventing further bloodshed of innocent people.

Asks the European Union and its member states to compose without delay a peacemaking force and to seek a clear mandate given by the United Nations or expand the mandate of the MONUC currently present in the country.

Asks the European Union and its member states to provide humanitarian aid to the large amount of refugees in the area.

Calls on all EU member states to give sufficient strength to effectively end the hostilities and to find a political solution to the crisis
