ELDR is recruiting a Political Advisor

 The European Liberal, Democrat and Reform (ELDR) Party is the European political family bringing together parties with common liberal, democrat and reform ideals from more than 30 European countries. Its role is to strengthen the liberal democrat movement throughout Europe, assist liberal democrat politicians to become better acquainted and to define a common political vision and communicate it effectively to European citizens.The Brussels-based Secretariat of the ELDR Party is a dynamic team of seven dedicated professionals who support the activities of the party, organise its statutory meetings, manage its external communication, facilitate European policy development and networking amongst liberal parties.In order to support our growing activities, we are now seeking an additional  Political Adviser

The position: Under the general supervision of the Secretary General, the political advisor will be in charge of
1. advising/giving political input to the ELDR; drafting policy papers; organising political missions, statutory events and thematic meetings;
2. maintain and develop contacts with member parties and prospective member parties;
3. contribute to the work for the electoral manifesto for 2009 European Parliament elections

S/He will also carry out activities assigned by the decision-making bodies of the ELDR Party. Occasionally, s/he will represent the Secretary General.

Requirements: The candidate must possess an advanced university degree in Political Science/ International Relations/ European Studies/ or other relevant social sciences studies. S/He is a motivated person, able to show initiative and to plan, organise and implement political projects, used to speak in public and present political positions.
• S/He should have at least 3 years’ experience in working in a political arena, including experience in an EU related environment;
• S/He should have a proven track record of project management;
• S/He should have affinity with liberal democrat values;
• S/He should be fluent in English and in French (excellent drafting skills are required); a good working knowledge of another EU language is an asset.
• S/He should have excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
• S/He should be computer literate, especially well versed in the latest internet communication tools.

The candidate will be based in Brussels but will also be called upon to travel frequently.
