Key liberal democrat leaders to discuss a vision for a 21st century EUeldr, Friday 2 June 2006 14:58 ::European Liberal Democrats’ Leaders will have a debate on the shaping of a modern and motivating EU during their summit ahead of the European Council on 15 June. Annemie Neyts, President of the ELDR Party will present to the ELDR Prime Ministers - Guy Verhofstadt (Belgium), Matti Vanhanen (Finland), Calin Popescu-Tariceanu (Romania), Anders Fogh Rasmussen (Denmark) and Andrus Ansip (Estonia) - the results of the reflection on the Future of the EU in the liberal democrat political family. A number of key leaders will be present to comment the findings, such as Siim Kallas, European Commissioner (Estonia), Olli Rehn, European Commissioner (Finland), Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner (Slovenia), Gijs de Vries, European Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism (The Netherlands), Graham Watson, ALDE Group leader (United Kingdom), Karel de Gucht, Minister for Foreign Affairs (Belgium), Meglena Kuneva, Minister for European Affairs (Bulgaria), Paula Lehtomäki, Minister for Trade and Development (Finland), Werner Hoyer, Deputy Chairman of the FDP Group (Germany), Markus Löning, MP, Vice-president of the ELDR Party (Germany), Katarina Gloncakova-Golev, Vice President of the ELDR Party (Slovakia) and Vesna Pusic, Political Leader HNS (Croatia). With this new vision for the future of the Union, ELDR hopes to motivate EU citizens to believe in and work for an open Europe that spreads freedom and democracy, that is united in addressing policies that have an impact on their daily lives and which is understood and at the heart of local, regional and national issues.
