Willy DE CLERCQ was confirmed in office as President. Resolutions adopted:

- European Union

- the European Act

- direct elections

- the Falklands crisis

- Poland

Campaign Preparations for the second European direct elections in 1984

At the 1981 Congress in Copenhagen, a Manifesto Committee had been set up under the chairmanship of Hans Nord MEP and a Campaign and Activities Committee under the chairmanship of Mechthild von Alemann MEP.

Change of Secretary General

After six years the first Secretary General, Florus Wijsenbeek (V.V.D.), handed over to Jens Nymand Christensen (Venstre) in October 1982.

New Member Party

In December 1983 the Liberal Party of Greece (H.L.P.) joined the Federation.
