CONGRESS IN LISBON, 1-3 APRIL 1987

The main subject of the congress was: "The Community of the Twelve: Solidarity and Cohesion".

Colette Flesch was re-elected president.

Re-elections of vice-presidents

The Executive Committee, meeting in June 1987, re-elected the three vice-presidents :

- Manuel Dias Loureiro (Secretary General of the P.S.D.)

- Uffe Ellemann-Jensen (Venstre President and Danish Minister of foreign affairs)

- David Steel (Leader of the British Liberal Party).

A new member joins the ELDR

Ireland's Progressive Democrats became the 16th member party of the Federation on the 19th of May 1988 following a decision made by the Executive Committee.

Old friends with new names

British Liberals merged with SDP and as Liberal Democrats rejoined the ELDR on the 10th November 1988.
