Follow up on EU Regulation on the funding of European political partieseldr, Wednesday 28 July 2004 14:41 ::The entry into force this year of the new "EU Regulation (EC) No 2004/2003 of the EP and Council of 4-11-2003 on the regulations governing political parties at European level and the rules regarding their funding" has finally provided the European political parties with a precise legal and financial framework to carry their political activity. The new EU regulation sets out the duties and the responsibilities of European political parties. On the 30th of April 2004, ELDR Congress adopted the new legal statute and the ELDR aisbl (international non-profit association) was founded. As the first European Party created 28 years ago, ELDR aisbl was the first European Party to obtain legal personality (under Belgian law). The statutes were published in the Moniteur belge (*04111833*). The new EU Regulation provides for the necessary financial resources for our European Party - ELDR Party - to continue to exist and carry its political activity. As a result, the ELDR aisbl submitted amongst the first, on 20th of July its application for funding as set under the new EU Regulation.
