CONGRESS IN FINLAND 13-15 OCTOBER 2010 (13/10/2010)ELDR organised its 31st annual Congress between 13 and 15 October 2010 in Helsinki, Finland. ELDR member parties Suomen Keskusta and Svenska Folkpartiet, were our hosts. The Congress was attended by over 550 delegates and guests from ELDR member parties as well as people from the wider European liberal network, including the Finnish prime minister, party leaders, European Commissioners and national and European parliamentarians. Participants debated key policy areas and overwhelmingly adopted the Congress theme resolution which outlines "liberal responses to the challenges of demographic change". The ELDR Party elected three prominent European Liberals as new Vice Presidents for a period of 2 years. British Liberal Democrat and former leader of the liberal group in the European Parliament, Graham Watson was elected together with Minister for European Affairs of Ireland, Dick Roche from member party Fianna Fáil. Re-elected for a third mandate was Vesna Pusic, parliamentary floor leader in the Croatian Parliament for HNS. The Congress also elected Roman Jakic, ZARES, Slovenia as ELDR Party Treasurer.
