CONGRESS IN COPENHAGEN, 12-14 JUNE 1981 (16/05/2006)

Congress endorsed the initiative on European Union by the German Foreign Minister, Hans- Dietrich Genscher.

Further decisions were taken on:

- Poland

- Greece

- a European electoral system

- the EC Regional Fund

- trade policy

- unemployment amongst young people

- unemployment amongst women

- international environmental protection

- the Community's external relations

- media policy and

- co-operation between the ELD and the Liberal and Democratic Group in the European Parliament.

To replace Gaston Thorn who had in the meantime become President of the EC Commission, the former Vice-President, Willy De Clercq (P.V.V.), was elected ELD President and Henning Christophersen (Venstre) became the new Vice-President.
