18-20 November: ELDR Congress in Barcelona
The delegates of the ELDR Party adopt with an overwhelming majority the theme resolution “Liberal answers for a new prosperity”. The Congress also reelects Markus Löning (FDP, Germany) as vice president. Newly elected vice presidents are Lousewies Van Der Laan (D66, The Netherlands), Marc Guerrero (CDC Catalonia, Spain) and Leoluca Orlando (Italia dei Valori, Italy).
The Council meetings welcomes the Alliance for a new Kosovo (AKR) as a new affiliate member party and takes note of the disaffiliation of ACDE France.
18 June: ELDR Leaders’ meeting
Liberal party leaders and Ministers discuss the results of the European elections and the state of play regarding the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
7 June: European elections
ELDR wins 74 seats in the European Parliament and 10% of the votes.
16 April: Council meeting in Brussels at headquarters of ELDR member party Mouvement Réformateur
The Irish government party Fianna Fail becomes full member of the ELDR Party. The French party ACDE changes from full to observer member. Centro Democratico Liberal (Spain) and Free Forum (Slovakia) become observer members.
The Council takes note of the Irish Progressive Democrats’ ceasing of existence. Furthermore, Council members note that membership with ELDR of the Liberals of Serbia and the Slovakian ANO has ceased.
15 April: ELDR campaign launch for the European elections
The ELDR Party campaign launch took place at the Thurn et Taxis building in Brussels gathering 1000 liberal parliamentary candidates and party activists to celebrate the official launch of the European Liberals election campaign for the European elections on 7 June 2009. The theme of the campaign launch is “Inspiring Europe.”
ELDR Prime Ministers gathered for a meeting ahead of the final EU summit of the year and discussed the future status of Kosovo and the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
