Yes will ensure Ireland’s positive role in the EU

I know that colleagues throughout Europe are paying a lot of attention to what is happening in Ireland.

A number of recent opinion polls show support for a ‘Yes’ vote holding strong, however, this cannot be taken for granted and we will continue working hard in the final days of the campaign.

My message to the Irish people has been a positive one about Ireland and Europe.  The result, which will be announced on Saturday will determine the future direction of Ireland and define our place within Europe.

I have campaigned throughout the country with the help of our unequalled network of activists.  We have mounted a full campaign and the Yes side has benefited from the support of other parties and some vibrant civil society groups.

I believe that ‘Yes’ vote will ensure Ireland remains a positive and influential member of the Union and the Union will be allowed to move forward to tackle urgent global problems and achieve democratic reform.

Once again I want to thank our ELDR colleagues for their good wishes.  We’ll keep working until the polls close on Friday night and I hope to be able to send you happy message next week.
