The on-going credit crunch has led most of us to take a good look at our expenses. We look at our bills and try to think of ways to reduce them. For me, I am always amazed at how much it costs me to use my mobile phone when I travel to a different EU country.

That’s why I’m pleased to report the adoption of the new EU Roaming Regulation. This Regulation, amongst other things, sets limits on how much the mobile phone companies can charge us for using certain mobile services whilst in other Member States.

This Regulation shows that competition policy can’t solve everything on its own - but when we work with regulators we can find solutions that make markets work better. Here are some of the key benefits of this new Regulation:

· Cost of texts sent from other Member States will be capped at €0.11 plus VAT;

· Making calls from other Member States will cost a maximum of €0.43 plus VAT per minute;

· Receiving calls from other Member States will cost no more than €0.19 plus VAT per minute;

· Surfing the web or downloading data with a phone in other Member States will cost no more than €1 plus VAT per minute wholesale.

And the best news is that the Regulation comes into effect on 1 July across the EU - just in time for you to save money over the summer holidays. Click here to discover how much you can save!
